I love chocolate. For Valentines Day, but really, every day.
Good chocolate. Dark (at least 70% cacao). Low sugar. High in anti-oxidants. It is really a health food, until it gets processed into junk with wax and chemicals. Sadly, most of the popular chocolates on the market fall into this category. So, show yourself some love, and someone you love, and get some really good chocolate this year.
Nibmor.com (one of my favorites)
Since my man doesn’t like chocolate (I know, he’s one of about 7 people on the planet, but that means there’s more for me), I like to have desserts that we can both enjoy. Otherwise I get too much of a good thing in one sitting.
So I have a few healthier dessert ideas for you, all gluten-free, soy-free, and vegan. Some are made with chocolate, some without, in case you are (or are with) one of those other 6 people on the planet.
Healthy, chocolate based and simple desserts (vegan, GF):
Coconut Almond Truffles from veganbaking.net
Chocolate Avocado Mousse from Renee Loux (This is divine. Seriously.)
Chocolate Sorbet from Glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com (check out more of her recipes, she’s a Go-To for me)
Edible Body Chocolate from fitmommymay.blogspot.com
And, Non-Chocolate Desserts that are Moore-ish: (Ode to my grandmother, Lenora, who called anything she wanted more of to be moore-ish.)
Vanilla Coconut Milk Ice Cream, topped with fresh berries and mint (that’s it, no recipe needed!)
Lemon Cashew Cream Tarts from Sunwarrior.com (Jason Wrobel, the chef, is awesome)
Raw Vegan Cheesecake from therawtarian.com (It really is as good as “traditional” cheesecake)
Apple Crisp from minimalist baker.com (I would just substitute coconut oil for margarine in topping)
I hope these recipes inspire you to make something wonderful that is much healthier and just as decadent as anything you may traditionally make.
If you want to be even more simple, but thoughtful, grab a bottle of organic, sulfite-free red wine, some bars of good dark chocolate, and some fresh strawberries. Delicous. Romantic. Done.
Wishing you all love.
